Capri is an island situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula on the south side of the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. The main town is located on the island sharing the same name as Capri. Capri is twinned with Crosby, Merseyside, United Kingdom. Capri is a region which has an experience of history, nature, worldliness, culture and events that daily blend together and gets the spirit of the island alive which is unique all over the world. This island is very luxuriant, extraordinary in its own ways with a mild climate to relax.
Travelling to Capri Island is a special feature of a Naples coast kind of vacation. This island was famous for its Roman Emperors-who were rich and famous all over the world, artists and writers. The people visiting Capri have to travel by boat till Marina Grande which is the island’s main harbor port. There are frequent ferries and hydrofoils from the city of Naples and from Sorrento on the Amalfi coast where as there are less ferries from Posintano on the Amalfi coast and the island of Ischia. This island is scattered with numerous beaches and the two towns that exist are Capri which is just above Marina Grande and Anacapri which is the highest town in Italy and both are famous for lemon trees, birds and variety of flowers.
The best time to visit Capri is as a day trip if you are nearby the island but would preferably be better if visited in mornings and little late evenings when the hoards of day tourists aren’t there. Springs are the best time to visit this location even though it won’t make much of a difference in terms of temperature and climate situations because the island’s moderate temperature makes it a year round destination.
For the travelling purpose on this island, there are several public buses running around but they can be crowded with localites. The funicular railway would take every visitor from hill Marina Grande to the town of Capri. The most panoramic and beautiful spot on this island is Mount Solaro and to travel till there, there’s a chair lift from Anacapri during the day time only as it is not available in the night time. There is availability of Taxi services as well which is reliable. Convertible taxis are one of the best options in here for travelling in warn sunny days. There is availability of boats as well at the harbor for an island tour and travel to Blue Grotto, for the same rented boats are also available. The nearest airports to Capri are Napoli-Capodichino(NAP) and Salerno-Pontecagnano(QSR).
This island offers variety of hotels to stay. Most of them are found in Capri and Anacapri islands whereas Anacapri is proved to be more peaceful than Capri because at night Capri is the main center of attraction of nightlife. The most glorious, exclusive and famous of hotels in Capri with a spa and baths since 1845 is the Grand Hotel Quisisana. Capri Palace Hotel and spa is another famous luxurious hotel located in Anacapri and is one of the leading hotels in the world. JK palace is one more addition to the list of famous hotels in here.
The tourists will always seek to shop something or the other specially of that very region which is been visited by them and thus in this island there is a famous lemon liquor named as Limoncello and items made from lemon are purchased by almost all the tourists. In some shops they even allow the tourists to taste the Limoncello for free. Other itineraries famous in here are the handmade sandals, ceramics articles and perfumes.
The island of Capri is famous for its special yearly and monthly festivals and events celebrated in here. At Capri’s main square area in La Piazzetta, the feast day of San Costanzo is celebrated on every 14th of May. There is a swimming marathon in every July and sailing regatta in May. Classical music concerts are held in Anacapri in summers and an International Folklore Festival held in August. There is a beautiful fireworks show exploded on every New Year’s Eve in La Piazzetta and in December there is occurrence of Capri Film Festival.
Grotto Azzurra is the most beautiful and breathtaking location of caves. It is a sea cave which is ultra blue in color. The blue light in the water is because of the refraction of sunlight into the caves which makes an iridescent, thus the name Blue Grotto. The quality and nature of the color in each case of caves, it is determined by the particular lighting conditions reflecting a particular cave.
The blue light in Blue Grotto comes inside through two sources, one is through a small hole in the cave hole which is a waterline used as an entrance way. The second source is the second hole which is just right below the entrance way. A same rowboat is hired from the entrance to enter the cave.
