Longji’s terraced fields look pretty as a design of steps and is offering some of the most fantastic scenery in Guilin.The Longji terraces area is famous for the large number of terraced rice paddy fields on its mountain, which have created a immense look on the hillsides.These fields stretch upon one another forming layers from the top of the mountain to the bottom edge of it.In some places there are terraces from the bottom to the top of the hillside.The view of these Rice terraces change from one season to the other.There are many rice terraces in China, and the most famous one is the Longji Rice Terrace in Guilin.Here the rice is being farmed at present days also and the Longji Rice Terraces are home to some of China’s ethnic minorities.

History:

The Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces ,this is the most amazing terrace in China.The Field Terraces were first built over 300 years from the late 1200′s to the early 1600′s in the Yuan Dynasty during 1271–1368 and were completed in the Qing Dynasty by the Zhuang people and Yao people.The village of Ping’An, which is the base camp from where it is easy for exploring the terraces, has a 600 year history and is populated by the Zhuang people.

Location:

These Rice Field Terrace’s are located approximately 27 kilometers ie., about 16 miles southeast of Longsheng County, Guangxi Province.The Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces covers an area of 66 square kilometers  ie., about 16308 acres and is having an altitude ranging from 300 meters ie., about 984 feet  to 1100 meters ie., about 3608 feet.It can be observed that within our eye sight where there is soil, there is a terrace seen in the valley and the water that is flowing through all of the valley looks like the river is flowing to the mountains summit with its swirling cloud cover.Even though the Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces is large, it is made up of numerous patches no more.

Approach:

We cannot find a direct bus from Guilin to Longji Rice Terraces even it is a wonderful place to visit. You need to take a bus from Guilin Bus Station to Longsheng,then we have to change to another bus from that station for Longji Rice Terraces.After that we can be one step far away from our destination and we must lastly transfer to a Longji bus.Travelling with a group of people will be more fun enjoying the nature and the way we pass through we can find greenish yellow farms on both sides of the roads which catches our attention,but the transportation is so complicated.These Terraces are located in Longsheng County about 111 km northeast of Guilin and it will take about 2 hours by express bus,if we take a ordinary local bus it will take 3 hours to reach our destination.They will charge 40 Yuan for each person.The buses are availabe from Guilin Bus Station to Longsheng for every 15 minutes.As it is a hilly area it takes time and there may be cases to have some traffic jams on our way.We can find direct buses from the Guilin Train Station, but we must ask where to find them and bargain in Chinese.

Attractions:

The main attractions near the village are the seven stars surrounding the moon,Nine dragons and five Tigers and two dragons frolicking with a pearl rice field terraces on the ,hill slides,the altitudes  are very high and they vary from 300 meters to 1100 meters with a falling grades from 26 degrees to 35 degrees.The steepest slope in this hill slides is 50 degrees.Although we can find terraces many places in china,it is extremely rare to see this type of Dragon’s backbone terrace’s.There we can see well built and architectural buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties,It is also having one famous Head’stone bridge.we can observe the military camp site Longquan Pavilion and the water mills.The village is so big and it will take a minimum of half a day to explore. In spring season, fields are watered and the terraces look like great chains or ribbons hung on the hillsides.When the summer season is approaching, The field looks magnificent as green terrace cascade down.During Autumn the fields are about to harvest and the farmers get their crop into their hand,the main theme of autumn is the harvest, with the mountainside decorated with the gold color farms in steps.As winter approaches, the whole mountain will be covered with white snow, just like huge dragons playing with water.So the Longji rice terrace have a unique design depending on the season and it varies from one season to the other.

Authentic local culture and customs can be experienced here by going to see their song and dance show. This is top landscape in any season, but blooming green before harvest time. Millions of people visit these rice terraces every year which the wise Chinese people created 800 years ago.Apart from the natures amazing scenery,Longji is also the area to visit to have wonderful experience on the Chinas ethnic minorities’ culture. The Zhuang and the Yao nationalities live here, though mainly it is the Zhuang people.
