Ponta da Piedade is an amazing and beautiful piece  of headland. It is an superb   setting of cut out rocks that sharply contrast with the greenish blue waters below. It is a half day trip from Lagos which is enhanced by renting a fishing boat to explore the cliffs. It consists of caves, grottos (which are similarly like caves) and sea arches that nature has sculpted over thousands of years.

The Ponta da Piedade is  located at 3 km to the south of Lagos at the southern side of the Lagos bay. It is situated at 4 km of Beach golden sands along Meia Praia, Batata Beach just across the road from the town centre, Dona Ana which is most popular over there. It is situated prominently on the head part.

History:

The town Lagos of Ponta da Piedade has a historical sense discovered by the Portuguese. It is named as the name of Henry, the navigator at previous days. Also, it is once  an European slave trade, where the trading of the European slaves was popular in olden days. It is the number 1 travel destination worldwide. There are several monuments regarding this which reminds us of that era of Portuguese history.

Also, this landscape once has been out bursted with severe harsh winter storms from the Atlantic Ocean. Due to this, the once softer stones have been converted into more sculpted stones which brings the prominence to this landscape. This landscape is prominently known as point of piety, which means a lonely planet.

The site of Ponta da Piedade gives this point a special charm. The best method to approach this magnificient view is from the sea. There are many boat trips available with which we can travel around watching the rock  pillars,  through the natural tunnels and into the grottoes, which means caves.  The sharp cliffs of shapeless angles are a wide n unique contrast to the gentle breezing seas.

The rock formations occurred due to natural calamities are simply unique and amazing that none can believe that it is caused by them.

The beaches in Lagos are the prominent to be said first as the tourist spot which is a beautiful spot for the tourists. . Porto de Mós Beach and  Meia Praia Beach are classed as ‘Accessible Beaches’ which means all types of people can use those beaches which is not  at all private and all the Lagos beaches have sun beds to hire and are supervised by some professionals  during the bathing season.

The next most breathtaking and wonderful place is the Light House which is a unique piece up and down. Those who can dare and have the ability can climb the 182 steps of the light house and view   Ponte da Piedade promontory, which gives the view that visualizes the limit of land and sea which is an amazing experience.

The grottoes are deserved to be admired due to their beautiful formation of their sculptured rocks. The surrounding area is brilliant with wild orchids in spring which gives us a pleasant experience around there.

The kayak trip takes you to the famous grottos and caves of  Ponta da Piedade in Lagos, Algarve, the Alvor Laguna or to freshwater reservoirs and we can watch the beauty of them which is just another quite stupendous one. This trip is about 3 hours where people who know swimming will have a great crush as they can feel the inner beauty of the trip and lifejackets are necessary.

The sunset here is just a masterpiece which is awesome mainly from the Town’s beach with its sweeping sand throughout the miles and surfing operators where the view is just the best place.

A small military fortress is located at end of the promenade which was built in the 17th century to defend Lagos from attack by enemy boats entering the bay, protecting the wealth and property of its citizens. The fort contains one of the best and well preserved ancient examples of those type of military installation methods and features turrets and a small chapel. Today the fort is used for exhibitions and other cultural activities and you get some magnificent views of Lagos bay from the battlements so that they can review their ancient military defensive methods.

Lagos  has a relatively small population, which makes the place large enough to be provided with abundant activities but small enough for the people to live like their home. It is a peace living area. It offers accommodations in all price categories, from campgrounds and private rooms to resort hotels and rental villas .It has wide range of motels, hotels, restaurents, villas for all types of people. It has a variety of beaches to stroll which is basically the pastime for the people living there. It has a varied nightlife with rock bars, a jazz club, fado  restaurants , classical concerts, and other activities for the full spectrum of tastes and age groups. It is basically an interesting place to live

Lagos has many shopping centers from local artistic crafts to fine goods from all parts of the world. Mostly the foodies basically has a fine market on 2 floors and the wide selection wit strange and unusual types of fish have a market on the ground floor.
