If you are in a trip across the wonderful bare lands between the borders of two countries, namely Canada and the United States of America, then you are sure to catch up with the beautiful bedrock in the Canadian Rockies. Located at an altitude of about 1290 metres above the sea level, the very height at which the park is located provides the apt climate for the flora and fauna. These are some of the oldest bedrocks that one will find in the Rockies and as a matter of fact, these bedrocks are extremely colourful and some of them have colours such as blue, green or black which run through them. This is in contrary to the rocks in the north which are mostly grey in colour, which makes the Canadian Rockies special among the people. As a matter of fact, it is to note that there are no foothills that lead to them and it looks like this Rockies just pop out of the prairies. Photographers from around the world come to this area just to take photographs of the wild flowers that engulf the area.


This park is operated by Parks Canada and tourism is one of the main interests with which this park is operated in addition to the environmental factors. Commercially important season for the park arises during the month of July and August and there are a lot of travellers who arrive to the park during these months just for the sheer beauty that it possesses. With its wide range of flora and fauna, this park became a World Heritage Site in the year1995 for its Physiographic setting, distinctive climate and the mountain-prairie like look that it boasts of.

There are a lot of campgrounds just outside the park and it is up to the individuals to choose from the options, that best fits their interests. One of the best places to stay is the campground at Crooked Creek. The view from the campground into the park is a fabulous sight and they are special when lightening or thunder storms occur! It is also a general tradition for the travellers to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to take a look at the sunrise over the park which is as beautiful as one would expect it to be. A short trip or a walk early up can take you to the town where one can understand the culture and the heritage of the place from the local community. Next up, one can visit the Red Rock Canyon and the wild bears at this place is a common sight to the commuters. However, warnings and behaviour sheets are provided to the travellers so that they can be sure of the reactions that has to be maintained while having encounters with such wild animals.


Another piece of serenity that one can find in the Waterton Lakes National Park is the wonderful lake, which look like a jewel to the human eye. With the crystal clear water adding to the beauty of the lake, this lake is one of the most important places to visit and it extends for about 2 km long. The calm waters of the lake make you wonder if the water is actually water or a huge mirror that the god has gifted this land. The small watercrafts can be rented and rowed to the lake. There is also an option where the travellers themselves can row the boat or else a rower can be hired from the boat hiring centre. The trip in the open waters makes one feel that they are up and close with the nature, which of course they are. The slow pace with which the boat travels makes the trip a romantic one to spend with your loved ones. After travelling for some distance, the snow-capped hills show up and it is an absolute treat to watch. The melting snow also forms a few beautiful waterfalls which add to the beauty of the place. The mountain on the bottom is covered with low growth shrubs and the green patch that it creates is it creates the effect of “icing on cake”, which snow being the icing.

However, it is advised by the tourism department that the travellers need not sit under the overhangs. It is often a sight to see that the overhangs are cracked and they start falling, leading to loss of life. So, it is always better to make sure that the advice is taken and avoid any kind of damage.

The Red Rock Canyon is also a place of interest and it gets its name from the Red Rocks that form the place. A short trip from the canyon will lead to the beautiful Blackiston Falls. The falls is a beautiful sight to watch and many travellers come to this place just to take a look at this falls. Therefore, it must be said that the visit to the park will leave one with the best of memories that one can have and cherish for the rest of their life.
