Quang Binh is a province located along Vietnam’s north-central coastal land. Initially, it was called Tien Binh when it was under the rule of Le Trung Hung, the ruler of the Le Dynasty. Later in the year 1604, it was renamed to Quang Binh. This province covers a total of 8065.8 kilometer square on land and has a population of over 850 thousands. Around the province of Quang Binh, located are the Khammouane Province of Lao in the western direction, Quang Tri Province in the southern region, the North Pacific Ocean in the eastern direction and the Ha Tinh Province in the northern direction. The region of Quang Binh was under Vang Lang historically and later belonged to the Champa Kingdom. It was then claimed by Dai Viet. Having these many changes in the regimes and rulers, the province has become a very important part of the history of the country and the world. The battlefields of the war between Champa and Vietnam are the lands of Quang Binh. Many places in the province are the attractions for tourists from all over the world.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park:
The most famous attraction of Quang Binh is the National Park of Phong Nha Ke Bang. This national park was listed under the World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO in the year 2003. Covering a region of greater than two hundred thousand square kilometers, the national park is a protected area located in the Minh Hoa and Bo Trach districts. These are situated in the North Central Coast of Vietnam. This national was created with an intention to protect the largest karst regions in the world having around 300 caves and caverns and also for protecting the limestone forest and its ecosystem located in the Annamite Range in North central Vietnam’ coast. The most famous part of the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park is the 70 kilometers long system having 300 grottoes and caves out of which the British and Vietnamese scientists have only explored 20 caves. This park has the “Longest underground river” in the world, the “Largest Caverns” and the “Largest passageways” in the world. Most of the caves and regions are unexplored because of the lack of the roads and other facilities on the way.
The Quang Binh has a lot of beaches for the tourists. The best out of all are the Nhat Le, Da Nhay and Ly Hoa beaches. The Mhat Le beach is located in the Dong Hoi district of the province. From the Dong Hoi centre, the Nhat Le beach is just a walk away. The Nhat Beach and the river are equally enjoys by the tourists and the locals. A lot of hotels and restaurants are located on the beach and there is also an amusement park for the kids. This is a very pleasant beach with a strong current. The public on the beach is mostly family groups, usually Vietnamese and Russian. This is a great place to enjoy family vacations. The Da Nhay beach is located right below near the foot of the mountain Ly Hao. The beaches have fine sand of white color. The water is very much clean and has crystal blue color. These are most attractive and clean beaches in the whole country of Vietnam.
Tien Son Cave:
The Tien Son Cave is also known as the Dry Cave and is located in the Phong Nha Ke Bang area having natural miraculous attractions. The Tien Caves were discovered in April 1935 under the mountains of Ke Bang. It is at a distance of 400 meters from the world renowned Phong Nha Grotto and is at a height of 135m. The length of the Tien Son Caves is more than 980 meters. After travelling 400 meters in the cave, you can see an abyss which is 10 meters deep. After 500 meters comes another part of the caves which is a bit dangerous to walk further. Currently, only 400 meters of the cave has been facilitated by installing the lighting system which makes it safer for the tourists. Different sized and shaped stalactites and stalagmites, hundreds in number, are found inside the caves which make it even more marvelous. Some will resemble a human figure; some will resemble the structure of an animal, or like some architectural wonder. The ceiling of the cave has veins that look like glittering gold and shining silver.
Quang Binh Border Gate:
The wall of Quang Binh was built in the year 1630 with an intention to protect the capital city of Phu Xuan under Nyguyen Dynasty. This architectural structure around the border is made of porch and walls. There has benn a lot of damage caused to the gate due to the number of battles fought in those periods and weather changes. But the gate has benn restored as it looked originally. The landscapes surrounding this gate are beautiful and delight every passerby.
Apart from the abouve mentioned beautiful and attractive sites in Quang Binh, there are a lot more to explore. One is the Bang Spa which is hot water spring area located in Le Thuy District which can have water of temperature upto 105 degree Celsius. Also the Ho Chi Minh trail has many sites of Vietnamese war.
