Yokohama – Japan’s Pride

After Tokyo, the most populous city in Japan is the City of Yokohama with a population of 3.7 million. It is the largest incorporated city of Japan. It lies on Tokyo Bay’s western coast, which is to the south of the Tokyo, on the island of Honshu. The city is the commercial centre of the region of Greater Tokyo. After mifd-19th century, it developed rapidly. Many foreigners are found in this city visiting this place for commercial as well as tourism purposes. It was the first port that was opened for foreign trade in 1854 and ever since then, it has been a growing graph for Japan as well as Yokohama.

The Tallest Structure amidst a park:


The tallest structure on the Yokohama land is the inland lighthouse named as Yokohama Marine Tower. It is situated in the Naka ward. This is not just the tallest structure of Yokohama but is also the tallest lighthouse in the world. It is located right in front of the Yamashita Park. Yamashita Park is another very famous attraction of Yokohama. The park is 750 meters long and is a great place for the locals as well as the visitors.  From this park, you can watch the entire port of Yokohama and a lot of greenery of the space makes it a spot to freshen yourself up and relax a bit. Many street performances can be noticed in and around this park which are super fun to watch. Some of these performances also include fire stunts. The park is very near to Osanbashi Pier which is another place of Yokohama every person must visit.


The tallest building of Japan after Tokyo Skytree is the Landmark Tower which is also located in Yokohama and is a major attraction for the foreigners because of the height. The Landmark tower is the third highest structure on earth made by men. It has an observation platform for the tourists on the 69 floor of the building which is the top floor. It provides exceptionally good views of the Yokohama land and its skyline. The fastest elevators in Japan are inbuilt this great and giant piece of architecture. You can also go to the 70 floor to have a cocktail and a fine dinner.

Arena and Museums:


The largest arena in Japan is the Yokohama Arena which is only at a five minute walking distance from Shin-Yokohama Station. Many famous musicians perform and hold concerts here. Among the many museums, the most commonly visited museum is the Yokohama History Museum that depicts the history of Yokohama from Primary period of ancient times to the Modern period of today. The museums are historical and classical. Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum is also a very different kind of museum. It is the museum of the Japanese noodles. The interior of this museum resembles a Tokyo Town and was designed in the year 1958. There are 9 ramen restaurants in this museum and upstairs, there is a history museum. Another such example is the Yokohama Doll Museum. You should also visit the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature.

Motomachi and Chinatown:


The best place for shopping lovers in Yokohama is the Motomachi. Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in japan and one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. It is as old as the times of Opening of Japan in the year 1859. This place is a major tourist attraction because of the umpteen numbers of Chinese grocery shops and also the place to buy cheongsam dress at cheap rates and or jade knick-knacks at reasonable prices. Though you may find these places a bit crowded on the weekends but the items available here are unique and cheap at the same time, especially at Motomachi. Chinatown is more known for the food you get there which has an unforgettably yummy taste.

For the Sports Fans:


The City of Yokohama is the home of the baseball team – the Yokohama Baseball Team of the Central League. The Stadium of Yokohama known by the name Bay Stars Stadium is the best place to watch a match of baseball in the whole country of Japan. This stadium was constructed on the remains of Cricket Ballpark of the previous century. This stadium has open roof architecture and the grass on the ground is naturally grown and thus the green color is natural and comfortable to the eyes every time. And for the Soccer players, the Nissan Stadium of Yokohama is the best spot.  Nissan Stadium is a very large stadium and was the host for the 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP’s final match. The J League Soccer team is the home team of Yokohama along with Yokohama FC.

And the waterfronts:


The historic port of Yokohama is Kannai. But the most famous waterfront of Yokohama is the Osanbashi Pier from where you can watch the sun rise and sun set events which looks beautiful every day. You can get the complete view the Bay Bridge without any obstructions and on a day with clear sky, you will be able to see the Mt. Fuji clearly.

Other interesting places of Yokohama are the Yokohama Science Center, Minato Mirai 21 Area, Kirin Yokohama Beer Village, Kogane-cho, Noge, etc. The Yokohama city is as good as it seems from the outside. The people are friendly and language is also not a big problem as most of the population communicates in English. When visiting Japan, a stop at Yokohama will be worth your time.
