Plitvice Lakes


Plitvice lakes is one of the oldest national park in southeast Europe and the largest park in Croatia. Plitvice lakes national park has certainly gained its reputation and the beauty of this park is admired by many locals and tourists. The sight of this park is awe- struck and leaves the visitors with lots of appreciation.





It has been said that this national park laid its foundation in 1949 and it is situated in the mountain karst area of central croatia which currently lies at the border of Bosia and Herzegovina . This Croatian island is connected with the coastal region which passes through the national park area and this connection is very fondly known as ” north-south road connection “.296.85 square is the extension of this protected area and the 90 percent of this protecte area constitues hika-sery country while the remaining 10 percent of this coastal is tha part of Karlave country .



It contains a series of beautiful lakes , caves and waterfall .These beautiful waterfall are the result of the process that is very typical of the Karst landscape such as the deposition of travertine barriers that create natural dams afterwards.All these geological processes continue even today . In 1979, it got its name added as to the UNESCO World Heritage and got itself registered as the very first natural site worldwide .


Plitvice Lakes natural park has a record of welcoming 1,20,000 visitors every year. While the entrance is subjected to the charges that is the cost is upto 110 kuna or 18USD per adult in the peak season . Ticket for non-student is 110 kn for one day or 180 kn for two days . A students pays 80 kn for one day visit .There are proper rules and regulations in Plitvice national park that are to be conducted and guided by the guards.

Around 16 lakes can be seen from the surface . These lakes are the result of mixing of several small rivers and they follow the flow of water . These lakes are laid to be separated by the travertine which is very famous of the natural dams, and deposited by the action of mass, algae , bacteria . This particular process is the result of a certain interplay between water , air and plants. These sixteen are separated into an upper and lower surface of the clusters that are formed by the run off from the mountains . These lakes descends from an altitude of 636 to 503 metres.


The basin of the Plitvice lakes is geomorgraphic formation  of biological origin that is attached with a basin of limestone with approximately twnety lakhs created by the deposition of calcium carbonate . This calciumk carbonate get precipitated in water through the moss agency and all these create very strange shape that is definitely a very special feature of Plitvice Lakes and an amazing treat to watch.



The lake system is divided into the upper lakes and lower lakes .

Upper lake is said to be lied in a valley which is surrounded by very thick forests and they are also separated by the barries of dolomite . The lower lake which is in the Plitvice lakes is also very delightful and the lower lake and the upper lake together make a very beautiful separation of the Plitvice Lakes.

This park consists of pure stands of beech and its lower altitudes and possess very mixed stands of beech . All communities of limestone have a very smaller number of forest types but they , however , at tha same time covers a large area of Plitvice Lakes .

Plitvice lakes has become one of the major tourist attraction in the late 19th century . This park is blesses with outstanding natural beauty , and the prescribed production of travertine through chemical and biological actions . This park has very soon became one of the famous Yogoslavia and most popular tourist attraction .


This park is very beautifully forested . It consists of beautiful beech , spruce , and beautiful trees . Plitvice Lakes national park also has features of Alphine and Mediterranean vegetation . However, a ticket is  required for the entry in this beautiful park.

Humans have also inhabited the Plitvice lakes area . The whole of the Europe is known for its precious gift that is Plitvice Lakes National Park.  This area has been known to be settled by Illyrians, Thracians, Celts, Japods, Romans, Avars, Slavs and Turks . This park is also known for its wide variety of plants . IT also consists of tremendous geological features. This park has a beautiful range of micro climates  and varying levels of altitude. It has a wide variety of bird species that make this site absolutely phenomenal.


How to get to Plitvice Lakes

You need to tell the driver beforehand to stop the bus between Zagreb and Zadar. From Zagreb , one needs to take the bus to Plitvice that can be arranged via Zagreb Tourist Agency .

Plitvice Lakes National Park is probably one of the most beautiful sight in Europe that anyone cannot afford to miss.  The main attraction of Plitvice Lakes National Park is hiking and having a walk in that beautiful area . Heavy crowd is expeacted in the peak area that actually symbolizes the attractivity of Plitvice Lakes Park . This place is a must visit.
